School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) Animal Care and Use Committee

The SMPH ACUC oversees the largest of the UW-Madison Animal Care Programs. That oversight encompasses seven campus animal facilities and three off-campus facilities. More than 50% of all ACUC-approved protocols are based within the School. Daily operations oversight of the facilities is centralized under Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR). The research program is biomedical and many projects are collaborative, including collaborations with the Veterans Administration Hospital. The ACUC is currently chaired by Dr. Daniel Uhlrich, Professor, Department of Anatomy. This Program has been AAALAC accredited since 1972.
