All Campus ACUC Policy

Policy Number: 2000-012 [PDF]
Adoption Date: 07/11/2000
Effective Date: 07/11/2000
Expiration Date: ongoing
Review Date: Annually in January
Review and Approval of Principal Investigator Response(s) to the Animal Care and Use Committee Questions of Approved Pending Protocols
Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to define the final review and approval process for protocols that are 'approved pending' by the respective Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC). Such 'approved pending' status is the result of the committee having one or more questions and/or requiring one or more clarifications. Voting the protocol 'approved pending' is when it is felt that the responses and/or clarifications are of a nature that do not require full-committee review. As such the committee can assign a designated reviewer or reviewers of the response/clarifications.

Policy: Each College/School Animal Care and Use Committee and the All Campus Animal Care and Use Committee shall designate at least one individual to review and approve responses/clarifications for protocols voted 'approved pending'. Designation of such individual(s) shall in no way restrict any committee member from requesting full committee review of the response/clarifications or from requesting a copy of the response/clarification. If the designated reviewer is not satisfied with the response/clarification further information shall be requested from the Principal Investigator. The designated reviewer may also refer the response/clarification to the full committee.
