CALS ACUC Statement Regarding Tail Docking of Dairy Calves, Heifers, and Cow's

adopted 18 January 2007 (filename ProhibitDairyTailDock)
see minutes 21 December 2006

The CALS ACUC, based on informed input from CALS veterinarians and dairy herd managers, does not allow tail docking of dairy cattle as a routine husbandry practice on CALS farms. Docking tails of dairy cattle within the context of a research project may be requested by a Principal Investigator via the Animal Use Protocol application and will be reviewed by the CALS ACUC per normal procedures.
