Animal Health Issues
  • Our lab animal veterinarians will assist with all animal health needs and answer questions.
  • Let us help set up and maintain preventive medicine and sentinel surveillance programs.
  • We can help develop research techniques.
  • Do you need to do a surgical procedure? Let us train you and/or provide surgical assistance.
Pathology and Histology Service
  • Our veterinary pathologists will help with your pathology needs and questions.
  • We have a full-time histotechnologist to assist with your histology needs.
  • Call to arrange for a private training session in necropsy and histology techniques.
Education and Training
  • Free training is provided to anyone involved in using animals in biomedical research on a wide variety of topics.

    • Online Animal User Certification (required for all animal users)
    • Species-specific classes (lab mouse, rat, rabbit, and more)
    • Lab Animal Surgery (anesthesia and analgesia, aseptic techniques for rodent surgery, basic suturing and wound closure, and introduction to surgery)
    • Tissue harvesting
    • Primate Handling and Behavior
    • Record keeping
    • Protocol Preparation 101
  • Individualized, custom-training sessions can be arranged to meet specific research needs.
  • We can help with breeding colony management and standard operating procedures.
  • Training videos and informational handouts on a wide variety of topics are available.
Protocol Services
  • Questions about research protocols? Call the helpful staff in our Protocol Office for assistance and technical support. And remember, the “Protocol Preparation 101” class can help you with general and detailed questions about the protocol form.
Other Services
  • Equipment is available to borrow, such as, an anesthesia machine, animal tattoo device, restrainers, bead sterilizer, homeothermic blanket, etc.
  • We can locate suppliers for a variety of animal-related products and drugs.
  • Funds available (announced in the spring) to aid in equipment purchases on an annual basis.
