Policy Title: UW-Madison Nonaffiliated ACUC Members
Policy: Nonaffiliated ACUC members are chosen to enhance the public’s confidence in the unfettered objectivity of the IACUC protocol and program review process. The unaffiliated member is regarded as a full IACUC member and is afforded opportunities to participate in committee functions equivalent to those of all other IACUC members. To conform to relevant laws and regulations and insure objectivity, the following criteria are used for selection of nonaffiliated ACUC members on the UW-Madison campus.
  1. Not a current, recent (<10 years), or recently retired (<10 years) employee of any division/unit of UW-Madison, including adjunct employment; consistent with AWAR, 2.31,b,3,ii; PHS Policy IV,A,3,b,4; Guide, 8th edition, p 24.
  2. Not a primary family member (grandparent, parent, sibling, child, grandchild, spouse) of any of the above; consistent with AWAR, 2.31,b,3,ii; PHS Policy IV,A,3,b,4; Guide, 8th edition, p 24.
  3. Not a primary family member of a currently enrolled, credit-earning student of any UW-Madison school, college, program, or unit; consistent with AWAR, 2.31,b,3,ii; PHS Policy IV,A,3,b,4; Guide, 8th edition, p 24.
  4. Not a current laboratory animal user either directly or through consulting or similar tangential services; consistent with AWAR, 2.31,b,3,ii; USDA Animal Care Policy #15.
