CALS Animal Care and Use Committee Statement Regarding Tail Docking of Dairy Calves, Heifers, and Cows

The CALS ACUC, based on informed input from CALS veterinarians and dairy herd managers, does not allow tail docking of dairy cattle as a routine husbandry practice on CALS farms. Docking tails of dairy cattle within the context of a research project may be requested by a Principal Investigator via the Animal Use Protocol application and will be reviewed by the CALS ACUC per normal procedures.
